Syncing from other systems

Sync mirrors records from an external system into your workspace and keeps them current. Integrations covers the other direction, Cobblr telling other services what happened.

The loop:

  1. On the Integrations page, add a sync connection: a source, its address, a credential, and which entity types to mirror.
  2. Review the first import's preview, then merge.
  3. Let the source push changes to the connection's webhook URL, or wait for the next pull.

Connections

A sync connection lives on the Integrations page: pick a source, give it the source's address and a credential, and choose which entity types to mirror.

  • Each type can be toggled and reconciled on its own.
  • A section can target a specific module instance.
  • A webhook URL on the connection lets the source push changes live instead of waiting for the next pull.
  • Coming from Homebox or Part-DB? The same page has one-click cards under Migrate in from another app: paste the address and an API token, and the import runs and saves itself under Live sync as a connection like any other. See From another tool.
  • Source tags become Cobblr tags on the mirrored record when the source declares them: attached by name, created if missing, never removed.

Preview before import

The first import shows you both sides before anything is written: what the source has, and what it matches in your workspace.

  • You review and merge rather than blind-import.
  • Photos on the source's records can come along into Cobblr's file storage.

Sources are installable

A sync source is a manifest you install, not code baked into Cobblr. To write one for a system you use, see Sync-source manifests.

  • The manifest declares the source's endpoints and how its fields map onto Cobblr's.
  • Anyone can write one for a system they use (a maker-inventory app, a database with an API), and the one Cobblr install stays generic.
  • For filament, there's a Spoolman integration on the inventory side.

Reaching a source on your LAN

If the source runs on your local network and your Cobblr can't reach it directly, the sync rides the edge bridge: the bridge dials out from your network and carries the fetch, so nothing gets exposed.
