Working with AI

Cobblr uses AI for a handful of assists, and only once you connect a provider with your own key. Nothing is built in and nothing is sent anywhere until you connect one. The AI settings page covers connecting a provider and the kill switch; this section is the practical depth on what each assist does and how to get the most out of it.

What AI does here​

  • Identifies what you scan. A photo with no barcode is read by vision; a barcode that the product catalogs don't recognize gets a name filled in. Either way you confirm before anything is saved.
  • Routes a capture to the right tracker. When you scan into a workspace with several trackers, AI ranks which one an item belongs in and fills its fields. See Basic mode for how this works with nothing connected.
  • Runs Cobb, the assistant. Cobb answers questions, reads your workspace when you let it, and proposes creates and updates you confirm.
  • Builds a bundle or a custom app from a plain description of what you want. See The AI builder.
  • Smaller jobs, like summarizing a note or pulling text off a receipt photo.

You bring the provider​

Every AI call runs on a provider you connect, using your own key or your own server. There is no shared Cobblr AI service, so there is no shared quota and no bill you did not sign up for. You can connect a provider for a whole workspace, or connect one under your own account as a personal connection and grant it to the workspaces you choose. Choosing a provider walks the real options.

With nothing connected​

The AI features do not vanish when no provider is set; they drop to a simpler mode, and the rest of Cobblr is unchanged. Scanning still resolves barcodes, the builder still compiles a prompt you can run yourself, and Cobb still answers a set of matched phrases. Basic mode covers all three.
