Automate with a wire
You will set a reorder point on a part and watch running low draft a purchase order for you. By the end, one part of your workspace reacts to another on its own. This uses the category from Your first category.
The loop:
- Enable the Purchases module.
- Set a Min qty on a part.
- Drop that part's stock below it, then review the drafted purchase order.
What a wire is
Modules don't know about each other. A wire is how they still work together: "when this happens, do that." You are about to use one that connects inventory to purchasing, without either one knowing the other exists.
Turn on purchasing
Enable the Purchases module from Configuration → Modules. It tracks orders, their line items, and what things cost, and it ships a default wire that watches your stock.
Set a reorder point
Open a part in your parts list and set its Min qty (the level at which you want to reorder). Do this on a part you can also drop the stock on for the test.
Watch it draft the order
Bring that part's stock below its reorder point (adjust the quantity down, or receive and then consume some). Running low drafts the purchase order for you, grouped by vendor, with the low items as lines. Nothing orders itself: you review the draft and send it. When that order comes in, mark it received and the stock tops back up, closing the loop.
Other wires, same idea
Compose your own wire the same way you used this default one, in a guided picker: choose the event, choose the action, done. Each wire can carry a condition, and each can be edited or turned off on its own. An order over a certain amount could post a notification, and a finished fabrication job could mark the task waiting on it done.
You now have
A workspace that reorders for you. Next, build a custom app that puts exactly the pieces you want on one screen.
